Anesthesia

Forestville Veterinary hospital offers a variety of anesthesia services for our patients. Anesthesia is used for procedures that require your pet to be unconscious (surgery, X-Rays, MRI, CT scans). We use premedication with injectible drugs to help your pet relax and make the anesthesia smooth and safe.
Your pet’s heart and lungs will be monitored during anesthesia in much the same way a human undergoing anesthesia would be. His/her reflexes will be visually monitored. We will special equipment to measure blood pressure, level of blood oxygen and monitor heart beat.

Dental Care

At Forestville Veterinary and Bird Hospital, we recommend yearly dental cleaning for all of our patients. Without proper dental care, your pet will suffer from bad breath, inflamed gums, and missing or loose teeth. This causes a lot of pain and discomfort. Dental disease can cause a lot of systemic diseases. It is easily prevented by regular dental examinations, regular dental cleanings, and daily home care. Geriatric pets may need dental cleanings more frequently than once a year.
At your pet’s yearly examination, it may be determine that he/she may need a dental cleaning. Dental prophylaxis is performed with your pet under general anesthesia. It includes cleaning the teeth and scaling below the gum line to remove food, bacteria and tartar.

Laboratory Testing

Our hospital is equipped with an in-house laboratory that allows our veterinarians to quickly perform diagnostic tests on a variety of samples (blood, urine, stool, ear swabs, etc...) and other samples to achieve an accurate and rapid diagnosis while you are waiting. Our outside laboratory services provide more tests. Test results are obtained daily.
Laboratory testing of specimens collected from avian, reptiles, and pocket pets is currently performed using our inside and outside laboratories.

Radiography

Our hospital offers routine radiology services to help the doctor diagnose a problem or a disease in your pet. Bone tumors, gastric obstructions, heart enlargement, bladder and kidney stones are diagnosed using X-rays. Radiographs are usually recommended when your pet is having a problem or as part of a general wellness program. We may sedate some pets prior to taking radiographs.

Surgery

Our hospital features a dedicated surgery suite equipped with state of the art monitoring devices. We routinely perform neuters, spays, and other soft tissue surgeries (bladder stones removal, dewclaw removal, lacerations, lump removal, skin biopsies, gastrointestinal foreign body removal, etc..) under anesthesia.

At Forestville Veterinary and Bird Hospital, we perform avian, reptile and small mammal surgeries on a routine basis. Fracture repairs, shell repairs, crop surgeries, spays, neuters and other surgical procedures are performed using specialized instruments and appropriate anesthesia. Medication for pain control is prescribed routinely to insure your pet’s comfort.

Hospitalization

Forestville Veterinary and Bird Hospital offers hospitalization services. We admit your pet into the hospital for monitoring and medical care by veterinarians and technical staff. During the stay, your pet may receive fluid, medication and other tests as directed by your veterinarian. Your veterinarian will update you daily regarding your pet’s status. He will give you verbal and written follow-up instructions when your pet is ready to go home. You could schedule a recheck appointment with your veterinarian prior to leaving your pet.

Pharmacy

Our veterinarian may prescribe medication for your pet’s condition. Forestville Veterinary and Bird Hospital has a pharmacy that enables you to pick up your pet’s medication at the time of your visit. We usually keep most commonly prescribed drugs in stock. We provide written prescription for those drugs not available in the hospital.

Euthanasia Services

Veterinarians and staff are available to help you with end of life decisions. Please call to talk to a staff member for an appointment. Consultation with the veterinarian will help you decide if euthanasia is appropriate. Prior to the procedure, pet owners should decide how the pet’s body will be cared for. The doctor will discuss the procedure. We provide a range of respectful options including burial and private cremation.

Health Exams and International Health Certificates

We perform health exams for interstate and international movements of animals. For international health certificates, please call the embassy of the country you are flying to for all necessary requirements prior to your pet’s visit. In many instances, your pet may need to be quarantined prior to departure or just after arrival to your destination. Pet Boarding

Our hospital offers limited boarding for cats ,dogs and exotic pets (small mammals, birds and reptiles). Boarding at our hospital is ideal especially if your cat or dog suffers certain medical conditions that require daily medication. There will be a doctor and technician available to monitor and manage any problem that may arise. We will review your pet’s vaccination to make sure that all vaccinations are up to date prior to the start of the boarding visit.

Pet Grooming

Forestville Paw Spa is open next to the Forestville Bird & Vet Hospital and offers grooming, a self-serve pet wash, full serve bath and complete grooming. Your pet’s vaccinations must be up to date prior to grooming.
